Logistics Management
Cherokee provides logistics management support in the form of data management, data cleansing, review of Technical Data Packages (TDPs)/Bidsets, management of First Article Testing data, and engineering support to review Requests for Engineering Support (DLA Form 339’s), Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDR) and Supply Discrepancy Reports (SDR).
Cherokee supports the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) Business Systems Modernization (BSM) transition by conducting data cleansing for National Stock Number (NSN) items prior to transition to the new system. The review, validation, verification, updating, and correction of the Total Item Record (TIR) are critical steps in DSCR’s migration from their Standard Automated Material Management System (SAMMS) legacy automated system to the new BSM system. Cherokee technicians follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines and DLA Technical Support Policy and Procedures Deskbook guidelines to review, edit, and make corrections to various databases to ensure that the TIR, the Contracting Technical Data File (CTDF), and the Defense Logistics Information System (DLIS) reflect accurate information for a given set of NSNs.
Cherokee collects data for Requests for Engineering Support, submitted on DLA Form 339, and tracks requested response time for thousands of requirements. Data is extracted from both the 339 Workflow System and the CTDF found in SAMMS. Cherokee corrects the data and posts the updated and accurate information to DSCR’s Web-based Automated Customer Interface, WEBCATS. Cherokee maintains a suspense file for the requested response time. Once the suspense date has passed, Cherokee coordinates with the Quality Assurance Specialist (QAS) as to what further actions will be taken.
At the customer level, Cherokee technicians gather and analyze data, coordinate, update, correct, report, and follow-up on engineering, technical, and logistics requirements in direct support of the Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) Engineering Section by assisting in the administrative execution of Request for Engineering Support, including DLA Form 339s. In addition, Cherokee personnel review Engineering Drawing Packages, research alternate sources of supply, review Part Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDRs), and participate in Physical Configuration Audits (PCAs). Cherokee personnel have developed and maintain an Access Database to provide current status of each DLA 339 and PQDRs that includes date assigned, date completed, hours expended, resolution, and alternate source of supply developed. Cherokee’s efforts have reduced the initial backlog from over 100 active 339s to a level of less than 20.
In support of the Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM) Data Management Section, Cherokee assists in the administrative execution of Item Entry Control or Parts Management transactions, including DoD Form 1685, Cataloging Action Request (CAR), Master Inventory File Data Verification / Assignment Request, and Master Information Verification Forms (MIF). Cherokee personnel accomplish Item Reduction Studies, Interchangeability and Sustainability (I&S) Studies, and Demilitarization Reviews (DEMIL). Cherokee’s efforts here have also resulted in a significant backlog reduction.
